Udupi, Mar 26: Ace swimmer Gopal Kharvi has won the state-level sea swimming competition held at Kodi Kanyana near here on Sunday March 25. The competition was organized by 'Bahumuki Saligrama', a forum for cultural, sport and social activities.
The competition was to swim from Kodi Kanyana shores near Sastan to Koravadi shores at Kumbhashi and then return to Kodi. The competition started at 8.40 in the morning and Gopal Kharvi stood first as he covered the distance in 9 hours. He reached Kodi at 5.40 pm. Gopalkrishna Adiga (57), a resident of Parampally near Saligrama who was also the senior most competitor among the 11 participants stood second after covering the distance in 10 hours.
The competition was inaugurated by retired physical training inspector Srikant Udupa while businessman Anand C Kunder felicitated the winners.
Bahumuki Saligrama president Suryanarana Upadhya, former tahsildar Anandram Madhyasta, Brahmavar BJP president Suprasad Shetty, Kota CA Bank vice-president Ramkrishna Aital were also present on the occasion.
