Mangalore, Mar 25: A day-long Tulu writers' conference organized by Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy was held in Ravindra Kala Mantapa at University College here on Sunday March 25.  The conference was inaugurated by Dr B A Vivek Rai, vice-chancellor of Hampi Kannada University.

In his inaugural address he called the Tulu writers to cross traditional barriers and set new trends in Tulu literature.  "Writers should come out their traditional way of writing and think of venturing into newer horizons.  Diversity of subjects would not only make reading fabulous but will also contribute in preserving and promoting Tulu language.

He further said that Tulu literature should not only be limited to boundaries of Tulu but should reach throughout the globe.

Noted writer K T Gatti in his address said that that most of the languages have their own borders, but Tulu has no boundaries as it has its own heritage and tradition.

Scholar Paltadi Ramakrishna Achar also addressed the gathering on Problems of Tulu writers in writing.  He sited that lack of response from readers is a major obstacle in publishing Tulu books. "Marketing Tulu books is a mountainous task today.  After going through one such experience no one would come forward to publish books," he said.

Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy president M K Sitharam Kulal presided over the function while member Gananath Yekkar delivered the keynote address.

Noted journalist and academy member Chidambara Baikampady welcomed the guests while registrar S H Shivarudrappa proposed vote of thanks.
