Ranbir Kapoor, Maharashtra CM launch 'Marks for Sports' campaign

Mumbai, May 7 (IANS): Actor Ranbir Kapoor and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched a lifestyle campaign NDTV - Nirmal 'Marks for Sports' at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) here.

Joining them at the event were actors Dia Mirza, filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, Olympic boxer Vijender Singh and celebrity fitness trainer Deanne Pandey.

"Being fit is not having an aesthetic beauty and exercising in gym, what keeps us fit is diet and not being lazy. Having great muscles is not being fit, we have to spread knowledge on what being fit means," Ranbir said in a statement.

The campaign's emphasis aims to provide playgrounds and facilities and inculcate sports as a culture amongst children.

"I feel that parents think that there is no career in sports in India. There is always a fear in mind and parents want their child to go to the mainstream. We have a policy in Maharashtra where the child gets additional marks for sports.

"I think we need to encourage people so that they can encourage children to go into sports. We are only focusing on limited sports. We need to professionalise all sports to create a scenario so that one excels in sports," Fadnavis said.
