Admitted in the intensive care unit of Nanavati Hospital, Prajapati has no idea why the men, who threatened him at knifepoint, attacked him, even after he had handed them his valuables.
Prajapati is being treated for multiple stab wounds on the abdomen.
Prajapati, a salesman, was returning from Valsad, Gujarat, accompanied by a relative.
After alighting at Virar station on Monday night, they boarded the luggage compartment of a Churchgate-bound local train for Jogeshwari, which is when the incident happened.
“I was shocked that there was no policeman on the platform as the police could have easily nabbed the robbers,” said Prajapati. He added, “If the trains ply late, then the railways should also ensure that police man the spot for public safety.”
But Police Commissioner (Railways) Suresh Khopade said, “It is not possible to deploy policemen on every platform. In any case, policemen are present at the entrance and exit of the every railway stations.”
