Mangalore, Mar 23: A national-level workshop on ‘Mainstreaming Gender in Curriculum’ organised by the Centre for Women’s Studies, Mangalore University was inaugurated at the University campus here on Thursday March 22.

The three-day workshop was inaugurated by Indian Association of Women’s Studies (IAWS) Bangalore president Dr Sumi Krishna emphasised the need to bring in equity between genders.

Delivering the keynote address, National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) retired professor Jaya Indiresan stressed on the importance of including gender studies in the curriculum and said that men and women should respect each other’s differences.

She further stated that a lot of potential is left untapped as women are not allowed the liberties that are enjoyed by men. Men and women need to be sensitised on gender issues, she said.

Dr Sumi Krishna released three books on the occasion namely ‘Mahila Adhyayana: Sadhyathe Matthu Savalugalu,’ ‘Gender Equity’ a text book for undergraduate students and its Kannada translation ‘Lingathva Samanvaya.’

Among those present were Centre for Women’s Studies director Dr Kishori Nayak, University vice-chancellor Prof K M Kaveriappa and registrar Dr K Sunder Naik.
