BJP to consult its MLAs on future of ties with MGP

Panaji, May 5 (TNN): Defence minister Manohar Parrikar, who was instrumental in forging an alliance with the MGP, on Monday said that the party will take a final decision on the BJP-MGP alliance after hearing all the BJP MLAs and office bearers. "As of now, there is no decision on anything (alliance)," he said.Uneasiness continues in the BJP and MGP camps on the future of the three-year-old alliance which came to power after the 2012 assembly polls.

While the MLAs and party officer bearers of both BJP and MGP want to break ties, senior leaders of both parties have kept their fingers crossed.

Parrikar also said that there may be differences of opinion among MLAs and party office bearers over breaking ties with MGP, but those were individual opinions. "If there is any change I will immediately let you know," Parrikar said, adding that both the parties have contested zilla panchayat polls together.

Last month, some of the BJP MLAs apprised the national joint secretary V Satish about the growing rift between the MGP and BJP.

Satish, who was in Goa on a two-day visit, held consultations with BJP MLAs in a hotel at Panaji and discussed organizational matters and BJP-MGP ties.

BJP MLAs had raised the issue of MGP fielding proxy candidates for the recently concluded zilla panchayat elections, wherein BJP had to face defeat in Sakhali, Shiroda and Khola seats.
