Arsenal poised to grab 2nd place

London, May 5 (IANS): Footballer Alexis Sanchez scored two goals in Arsenal's 3-1 win over Hull City, a result that leaves the 'Gunners' poised to overtake Manchester City for second place in the Premier League.

Arsenal and City are tied with 70 points but the Manchester side sits second due to a narrow advantage on goal differential. The Gunners, however, have a game in hand and are in the best form of any club in the league, reports Efe.

With Chelsea having already clinched the title, Arsenal, City, Manchester United and fifth-place Liverpool are fighting for the three remaining Champions League berths.

At the other end of the table, 17th-place Hull is just one point above the drop zone.

Sanchez, the Chilean international who was relegated to a supporting role during his time with Barcelona, has emerged as a top striker in the Premier League. He put Arsenal on the board in the 28th minute on Monday with a free-kick that took a deflection and ended up in the Hull net.

Aaron Ramsey got the second goal for Arsenal just five minutes later, on a feed from Santi Cazorla, whose play is seen as a key element in the Gunners' spectacular performance since January 1.

Sanchez struck again just before half time, set up by Ramsey.

Stephen Quinn gave the Hull fans something to cheer about in the 57th minute, connecting a header to lessen the deficit.
