Bantwal, Mar 21: The CoD police along with Bantwal police have arrested Chewing Gum Sunil (24), a notorious criminal in a connection with the murder of a person during the infamous communal riots of October 2006 here on Tuesday March 20.

Chewing gum Sunil has been at large for sometime now.  Police had been on a search for him in this regard.  He is said to be the prime accused in the murder of Boliyar Ibrahim, who was killed while on his way to Mangalore airport on a Maruti Omni ambulance.
Boliyar Ibrahim had to leave to Dubai on the ill-fated day.  Since curfew had been imposed in the Mangalore and Bantwal taluk limits owing to communal clashes, he had hired the said vehicle from Modankap.  A few of his relatives too were accompanying to the airport. 

As their vehicle reached Polali, a mob had stopped the vehicle and assaulted those who were inside the ambulance.  Later they locked them inside and set the vehicle on fire.  But owing to some timely interference, they were saved.  But Boliyar Ibrahim who sustained serious injuries died.

The police had filed case against 14 persons in this regard.  Among them Chewing Gum Sunil had been at large so long.  The other accused have already come out on bail.  Sunil was produced in the court on Tuesday.
