Beltanday, Mar 21: Shekhar Naik, Anand Naik, Prasad Naik and Taranath Naik, the prime accused in the murder of Spanish researcher in the dense forests of Kadirudyavara here have been remanded to 3 days of police custody.
They were produced in the court on Tuesday March 20 which remanded them to police custody to aid investigation. As reported earlier they had killed Spanish researcher Francisco Alberto Belil and stolen his valuables some 8 months ago. After smashing his head against a tree, they had hung him from a tree in the forest.
The accused are members of one family and had made friendship with Belil who was on a tour to study wildlife in India. He had come to Kadirudyavara here in June 2006. Despite murdering him they had managed to get only Rs 7 from his pockets as he was withdrawing money through ATM whenever he was in need of it. However, they had kept his other belongings such as mobile phone, ATM card, laptop etc for themselves.
