London, May 3 (IANS): Former footballer David Beckham, who turned 40 on Saturday, has thanked his wife Victoria Beckham for an "amazing" birthday.

David celebrated his 40th birthday with an extravagant party at a six-star resort outside Marrakech in Morocco, and gushed on his Instagram account about his "beautiful" spouse, reports femalefirst.co.uk

“Thanks to my beautiful wife for such an amazing day x (sic),” he wrote.

David, who has already amassed almost three million followers on Instagram since he launched his account on Saturday, also invited a host of celebrity friends to join him for the 250,000-pound milestone bash, with television chef Gordon Ramsay and actress Liv Tyler in attendance.

Other famous faces who joined the couple and their four children -- Brooklyn, 16, Romeo, 12, Cruz, 10 and Harper, three -- reportedly included Victoria's former Spice Girls bandmates Emma Bunton and Mel C, and actress Eva Longoria.
