Mangalore, Mar 21: At the review meeting held here on Tuesday, B Nagaraj Shetty, Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada instructed the officials of Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (MESCOM) Ltd and Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (KPTCL) not to shut down power during peak hours.

He said that the SSLC examination would begin from Wednesday and unscheduled power cuts would affect students.

He further said that the KPTCL and MESCOM should stick to a schedule and not interrupt power in the evenings

In reply to this, Managing Director, MESCOM, S Sumanth expressed his inability in the power cuts. He said following certain directives of KPTCL and the Government with regard to power supply and the problems of lack of infrastructure had made it inevitable to resort to power cuts.
If the power is not shut down during peak hours then the transformers would get damaged, he added

MLAs S Angara,. Shakuntala Shetty, Angara, Prabhakar Bangera and Padmanabha Kottari were present on the occasion.
