Mumbai, April 29 (MD): In the month of November last year, a body of a 30-year-old man was found in a spot under the jurisdiction of the Kurla police station. The cops had initially registered an accidental death, filed an ADR (Accidental Death Report) and kept the case on hold.

Last week, the Dongri police received a tip-off from an informer, which led to the arrest of Raju alias Ravi Shankar Shettey (30) for the death reported at Kurla last year. The accused has been arrested and handed over to the Kurla police and a case of murder has been registered.

The cops claimed that the accused was jealous as the deceased (identified only as Tiger) was earning more than him in the same business (both were suppliers of fodder). In the wee hours of November 6, 2014, the duo had an altercation, which led to Tiger’s murder.

An officer from the Kurla police station said, “The body was found the next morning next to the Kurla police beat chowky. The deceased lived alone, and he was only identified as Tiger and the case was then registered as an ADR. The medical report stated that Tiger died due to a head injury.”

Death threat
Last week, when the accused Shettey was fighting with a police informer, he warned him that “he would kill him in the same manner as he killed Tiger”, and the information was passed on to the Dongri police. “The Dongri police then picked up the accused from Kurla. During investigations, the accused confessed to the crime, following which he was handed over to the concerned police station,” added a police officer.

Cop speak
Inspector Gangadhar Sonawane from Kurla police station told mid-day, “In this case, the deceased died due to an internal head injury. Even the doctors were confused if Tiger’s death was natural or if somebody had killed him, due to which even we had held the case.” The accused has been booked under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code, and has been sent to judicial custody.
