Cops get 7 more days to arrest Mickky, told to search Delhi hotels

Margao, Apr 29 (TOI): Extending the arrest warrant issued against convicted former RDA minister Francisco 'Mickky' Pacheco by another seven days, the judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) court in Margao on Tuesday directed the police to conduct a thorough search for the Nuvem MLA in all the major hotels of Delhi.

The order was passed by judge Pooja Kavlekar after police said Pacheco's whereabouts had been traced to Delhi. This is the third extension since the arrest warrant was issued on April 9.

Referring to the police statement that Pacheco has sought an extension of time before the Supreme Court (SC) to surrender, Kavlekar asked the police inspector whether Pacheco was present in the SC or had done it through a notary.

She also sought a clarification from the police as to who had instructed lawyer Madhusmita Bora to file the review petition in the SC, and asked for the present status of the matter.

Kavlekar also turned down the police plea to issue a proclamation, of absconder, against Pacheco.

On the issue of the search warrant issued earlier by another judge of the JMFC, to search for Pacheco at 10, Akbar Road, Delhi—the official residence of Union defence minister Manohar Parrikar—Kavlekar stated that the fate of the search warrant is yet to be finally decided by the additional sessions court, where the warrant has been challenged by the state government.

Pacheco is facing a six-month jail term for assaulting a junior engineer of the electricity department in 2006.
