Bangalore, Mar 16: The Women’s Day celebration taken up by Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) and Indian Federation of Women Lawyers, concluded on Thursday with a valedictory function attended by eminent women from different fields.

Speaking at the function, KSLSA Patron-in-Chief, Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph, said women were indispensable in men’s life, and men also had played significant role in furthering the cause of gender equality. However, women had to define what exactly they meant by liberation, he added while calling upon modern women to value motherhood.

Success is more attached to employed women, but, the achievement of women who be at home and take care of husband and children is also equally great, he said.

Director General of Police Jija Madhavan Hari Singh said, Indian women had more freedom, when compared to their counterparts elsewhere. Gender discrimination was universal, but differed in degrees from place to place, she added.

Equality guaranteed by Constitution is rather on paper and is not actually experienced by women, at home and work-place. To cure this, media and judiciary, need to contribute by showing proper attitude to the issue of gender discrimination, she said.
