Mangalore, Mar 15: Former chief Minster M. Veerappa Moily has welcomed the decision of Kerala Government to set up Kerala State Tulu Sahitya Academy at Manjeshwar in Kasaragod district.

Mr. Moily told from Bangalore that the decision would pave the way for the inclusion of Tulu in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

In a press release on Wednesday, secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist) Manjeshwar area committee K.R. Jayananda said that it was a right step taken by the Government to bring together two languages and cultures in the border area. Welcoming the decision, Yakshagana artiste Parthi Subba said that this would strengthen the cultural links between Karnataka and Kerala. Manjeshwar MLA C.H. Kuyembu and Kerala Education and Culture Minister M.A. Baby had moved a proposal in this regard in the Kerala Assembly. After a survey by the Department of Education and Culture the Government found it was necessary to set up the academy. This decision further strengthens the case for inclusion of Tulu in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, senior member of the Karnataka State Tulu Sahitya Academy Chidambar Baikampady said . He said that the Karnataka State Tulu Sahitya Academy would extend support to set up the academy.
