Rio de Janerio, April 24 (IANS): Vasco da Gama are in talks to sign former Porto and Brazil international midfielder Carlos Alberto, according to media reports.
The 30-year-old has been without a club since leaving Botafogo by mutual consent in December, Xinhua reported.
According to local football news portal Lancenet, Vasco face competition for Alberto's signature from their Brazilian rivals Figueirense.
Alberto, who earned a solitary Brazil cap in 2005, played a key role in Jose Mourinho's Porto side that won the 2004 Champions League.
The then 19-year-old scored the opening goal of the final against Monaco, which Porto won 3-0 in Gelsenkirchen.
Vasco are also said to be in talks to sign former Botafogo left-back Julio Cesar and ex-Fluminense midfielder Diguinho.
