Udupi, Mar 13: The opposition to Nagarjuna Power Project just doesn’t seem to cease. In a fresh allegation against the project, Nagarjuna Virodhi Horata Samiti vice-president Vijaykumar Hegde has said that plant will harm the areas near Bajpe Airport and New Mangalore Port.
Speaking to press persons here on Monday March 12, Hegde said that the fly ash, a by product from the plant, will reach up to 100 km which might considerably reduce visibility at the airport, apart from harming the environment.
He added that as Nagarjuna has not specified storage area for imported coal, the coal may be stored in bulk at NMPT, which is a cause for concern.
He also alleged that the plant is not keeping its promise of generating 1015 megawatts of power and instead is going for another 500 megawatts more.
