Mumbai, Apr 21: Actor Salman Khan who had allegedly driven his vehicle into a bakery in Bandra West and killing one person and injuring four others at the same time, will know the verdict date on his accusations on April 21, a Mumbai court announced on April 20.

Salman defence counsel, Shrikant Shivade beseeched the court to not take into account the statement of late Ravidra Patil who was Salman Khan police appointed bodyguard as well as an eye-witness. Shivade said, "The charges were different earlier but now even though the facts remain same, other charge has been pressed. This charge is far more serious than the earlier. So, the evidence of eyewitness Ravindra Patil should not be accepted because he passed away and was not available for cross-examination. It will be dangerous to convict a person on basis of witness who has not faced cross examination."

Pradeep Gharat, the public prosecutor of this case, said that, "It is a very serious matter and may affect the case," Gharat also said that the defence had been given ample opportunity to cross-examine Patil before he passed away and the theory being offered up by the defence now is baseless.

The defence closed their statements saying that the accident had been caused by a tyre bust which in turn absolves Salman Khan and his driver Ashok Singh of being guilty of the unfortunate accident.

The court is all set to hear the contempt proceedings and announce the date of the verdict.
