Berlin, April 20 (IANS): Struggling Bundesliga side Hannover 96 has sacked head coach Tayfun Korkut with immediate effect, the club confirmed in an official statement on Monday.
Hannover and Tayfun Korkut part company after 16 months. In 46 official games Korkut reaped 14 wins, 11 draws and 21 defeats. Hannover have slumped into the relegation zone this season, sitting only two points adrift of the relegation play-off spot, reports Xinhua.
Hannover suffered their 14th loss of the season in a 0-4 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen. As a consequence, the club sacked the 41-year-old coach due to poor performance.
"Hannover suspended its head coach Tayfun Korkut on Monday morning. Tayfun Korkut was informed by sporting director Dirk Dufner, who also briefed the players," the club said on its official home page.
Besides that, 15th-placed Hannover stated that they are on the look out for a new coach, "who will take care of the team against Hoffenheim."
Hannover encounter Hoffenheim in the 30th round of the Bundesliga on April 26.
