Mysore, Mar 11: Goa University Konkani students were on study tour to South India from March 3 to 7.
During the annual tour, the Konkani linguistic students are taken on the tour accompanied by their lecturers and faculty representative. Altogether 17 students were on the tour accompanied by 2 lecturers, Priyadarshani Tadkodkar and Prakash Parienkar.
They visited places of interest like Murdeshwar, Dharmasthala, Hassan, Shravanabelagola, Ooty and the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) in Manasagangotri, Mysore.
At CIIL, they were guided by the Validation and lexical build as well as documentary section regarding the work of languages, especially relating to the Konkani field.
The localization of computers in Konkani language and the future need of the language aspects were stressed by validation group leader and Bengali experts Manjishta Bhattacharya and Yashodhara Maiti, Assamese experts Biswadip Gogoi, Debajit Sharma, Oriya experts Jhuni Mallick and Sarita Panda, Marathi expert Sunetra Sholapurkar, Malayalam experts Dr Geetakumari and Darwin L, Tamil expert Dr Palanirajan, Kanada expert D S Hemalata and Konkani expert Seby Fernandes.
The making of documentary and its aspects were thoroughly explained to the students by expert head Soumyajit Gupta assisted by Sanhita Dasgupta and S Latapriya.
The participants found it a useful experience whereby they could visit historical places related to Konkani language, literature and community.
The group included both first and second year Konkani faculty students. Jayesh Raut, Reshma Sulekar, Vaishali Pagi, Bracel Fernandes, Siona Crasto, Pooja Sangodkar, Antima Gaonkar, Meera Kankonkar, Vimal Nagvekar, Deepali Naik, Swarupa Naik, Smita Phadte, Swati Shetgaonkar, Supriya Shetty and Urmila Phadte were the participants of this tour.
