Bangalore, Mar 11: A seven-year-old boy was killed and another injured when bricks fell on the students who had assembled at the portico of Sri Surekha International School on 4th Cross, Magadi Road, on Saturday.
The victim is M. Dinesh Kumar, a first standard student and son of Murugan, a worker at a bookbinding unit.
Another first standard student, Rahamathullah (7) of Gopalapura, suffered head injuries and has been hospitalised. A CT scan of the brain revealed that he was out of danger, the police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) K.V. Sharathchandra told that at 1.20 p.m. around 200 students had assembled at the portico for prayers when bricks fell on them. As construction work was in progress on the second, third and fourth floors of the building, it was yet to be ascertained from where the bricks fell, he said.
Dinesh, who suffered serious head injuries, was rushed to a nearby private hospital. Later, he was taken to Victoria Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The school is run by Kamalaa Naidu Education Trust headed by Kamalanath, also a resident of 4th Cross, Magadi Road, where the school is located.
The Kempapura Agrahara police will book a case of negligence leading to injuries and death under Sections 337 and 304 (A) of the Indian Penal Code against the school management, Mr. Sharathchandra said.
