Kingston, April 18 (IANS): Bahamian singer Johnny Kemp has died in mysterious circumstances here. He was 55.
The singer's body was found floating at a Montego Bay beach on Thursday morning, according to Jamaica police, reports aceshowbiz.com.
Prior to his death, Kemp was scheduled to perform for Foundation Fantastic Voyage Cruise hosted by Tom Joyner.
The singer is said to have passed away when he fell and hit his head in the restroom while on the Tom Joyner cruise. However, Reach Media, the company responsible for the Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage, denied the reports, claiming that Kemp never showed up on the cruise.
"We have received confirmation that Johnny Kemp has passed away. We do not have any other details. We can confirm he was not on the ship for the Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage Cruise," a representative for the company said in statement.
Another speculation on the cause of the "Just Got Paid" singer's mysterious death is that he fell in a rocky beach in Jamaica where he was set to board the cruise. So far, there haven't been any confirmations about the details of his death.
A day after Kemp's death news broke, hip-hop producer Salaam Remi paid tribute on image-sharing website Instagram.
"#RestInPower to Johnny Kemp...I was raised by a community of NY musicians and you were common visitor," Remi wrote on April 17. "With bright smile and laugh and partner in song and wisdom. You'll be missed. prayers to your family and our extended families," Remi added.
