Udupi, Mar 10: The superintendent of police Dr Subrahmaneshwar Rao has issued notices to several members of Nagarjuna Protest Committee Samiti in view of the proposed National Highway bundh.
The samiti had announced that it would hold a day-long highway bundh on NH 17 from Byndoor to Ullal against the setting up of Nagarjuna Thermal power plant at Nandikur. Following this the SP has started issuing notices to office-bearers and members of the samiti against the proposed bundh.
Quoting Supreme Court judgement that any strike, bundh that causes problems to the general public, to law and order should be banned, SP has said that the bundh call given by Nagarjuna Protest Committee is against the ruling of Supreme Court and hence they should give up the idea of holding bundh.
He has also warned that any loss to life, public, private property and any other incidents of violence would be viewed strictly and that the committee would be made responsible for the loss. "In case of loss to property or life, the Committee will have to bear those expenses too," he said.
