Mumbai, Apr 17: Margarita with a Straw tells a heart-warming tale of a girl who had cerebral palsy coming of age in a relatively harsh world with love and support of two important women. One who is her mother and the other with whom she finds a safe haven for her inner desires and wants.
Kalki Koechlin's movie that hit theatres yesterday has already garnered quite a few awards with a generous helping of high praise on the side. The movie that has Revathy, Kalki and Sayali Gupta has had Bollywood's elite raining praises upon it. Actor Amir Khna, director Farah Khan, music director Anu Malik, actor Gulshan Devaiah and Aditi Rao Hydari, among others strongly urged people to watch the movie.
Kalki's husband director Anurag Kashyap too, tweeted, " Go see Court and Margarita.. Two great films out today" Director
Shonali Bose who had also written the story, did not want audiences to think the movie to be an art film and so refrained from making any mentions of the already won awards. She was inspired by her cousin Malini who has cerebral palsy and is wheel chair bound.
Shonali has carefully skirted the issue of the problems face by diabled people and instead concentrated on how they achieve their goals.
She said, “One important thing of the film is you will forget that she is in a wheel chair.”
