Gurgaon, April 16 (IANS): Star golfer Jeev Milkha Singh on Thursday said that bodies such as the Indian Golf Union (IGU) and Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) need to work together to further raise the standard of the sport in the country and make it world class.
“IGU’s role in development of golf is paramount. Developing age is the most important part of one’s life. IGU’s role in the development of juniors and imbue them with right knowledge and values needs to be appreciated widely," Jeev said here at the India Golf Expo where he was conferred with the Indian Golf Industry Association (IGIA) Lifetime Achievement Award.
"Those who wish to turn pro, PGTI offers a good training ground by holding a series of competitive events in India and preparing professionals to take on bigger challenges.”
The 43-year-old exhorted young golfers to dream big, develop mental strength and stay focused to achieve bigger goals. He said Anirban Lahiri, S.S.P. Chowrasia and Gaganjeet Bhullar, who are making it big on the international circuit, hold much inspiration for youngsters.
Jeev, who has four European Tour titles, added that golf can grow in India only when all elements of the industry work in unison.
