Mangalore, Mar 8: The Dakshina Kannada district administration in joint association with department of women and child development, district federation of Mahila Mandalas and Karnataka State Women's Commission organized World Women's Day at Town Hall here on Thursday March 8.

The programme was inaugurated by ZP president Sushma Janardhan.  District-in-charge-minister B Nagaraj Shetty and MLA Yogish Bhat who were supposed to grace the occasion, were absent owing to some personal reasons.  Mayor Vijaya Arun presided over the function.

She honoured district-level best anganwadi workers on the occasion.  Kalgundi Anganwadi worker D G Pushpawati and Nelyadi aganwadi worker Sherly were honoured during the programme as best district-level anganwadi workers.

Ashwini Rai and Roshan Veigas were conferred with `Keladi Chennamma Award' and `Hoysala Award' respectively for their bravery.  As reported earlier in these columns Ashwini Rai was conferred with the award for catching a thief while Roshan Veigas had saved the life of his classmate who was drowning.

Deputy mayor Abdul Salim, ZP vice-president Rajashree S Hegde, ZP social justice committee president Abdul Azeez Mallar and ZP member Victoria were also present on the occasion.

Flower arranging and rangoli competitions were organized for the women on the occasion.
