Mangalore, Mar 7: B V Seetharam, the daring journalist and editor of leading Kannada eveninger Karavali Ale is on hunger strike for indefinite period in the sub-jail cell here from Tuesday March 6.

As reported earlier B V Seetharam was arrested on Saturday March 3 night by Panambur police following a complaint by prominent Jain leader for publishing derogatory articles about Acharya Taruna Sagar. 

He was produced in the court on Monday.  His bail plea came to hearing on Tuesday and the court has reserved its judgement to be announced on Thursday March 8.  Meanwhile B V Seetharam who was admitted to Wenlock Hospital owing to deteriorating health condition on Sunday was shifted back to sub-jail on Tuesday.

But eversince he was shifted to the cell, he has gone on hunger strike protesting against the police move to curb the freedom of press.  When he was advised about his personal health he said that the health of the society is more important to him than his personal health.  "I cannot stand anyone and any establishment that tries to choke the voice of people.  I want to uphold truth and therefore I willingly take up hunger strike," he said.

Latest reports said that his wife Rohini who too is in the same cell too has joined VB V Seetharam in his hunger strike from 4 pm on Wednesday.
