Karkala, Mar 6: Former chief minister of Karnataka and leader of the Opposition Dharam Singh on Monday visited Chara, near Hebri in Karkala Taluk. The visit was planned to tackle the problems faced by people there.
Under the Congress leadership the Hebri Gram panchayat had distributed 254 sites of five cents each to the poor. But Madan Nayak the then Assistant Commissioner of Udupi had cancelled the order which deprived the poor of free land.
Dharam on Monday, after visiting Chara assured that the people would be given the land and the issue will be raised in the next assembly meeting. He further told that there were many loopholes in this matter.
Gopal Bhandary, former MLA of Karkala, Vinaya Kumar Soarke, former MP, U R Sabhapati, former Lok Sabha member, Vasanth Salian, former minister and M A Gafoor president of the district congress committee were present on the occasion.
Congress leaders H Prasanna Ballal, Aveline R Louis, S Narashimaha Nayak, Chandra Shekar Shetty, Shrada D Bijioor, Shyamala Bhandary, Hebri Panchayat president Neere Krishna Shetty and other were present.
