Mangalore, Mar 4: The Mangalore Institute of Fashion Technology observed Khadi day on Saturday and to mark the occasion a ‘khadi walk’ was organised. The event was flagged off by Abdul Salim, Deputy Mayor, Mangalore City Corporation.
Dr Aroor Prasad Rao, Entrepreneur addressed the gathering and said that the youth should get attracted to fabrics like khadi. This will promote cottage industries and thus foster the growth of the nation.
MIFT Founder and Director M G Hedge spoke of the significance of the day. The jatha or walk which was from Kankanadi to Townhall was led by student leaders Jayanth Subramanya, Raghavendra, Vipin and Robin.
Congress District Vice President Ivan D’ Souza, Kannada Sahithya Parishad president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, National Students Union India district president Tejaswi, Janata Dal Students wing president Yogish Shetty and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee member U T Khadder were also present.
