Sullia, Mar 3: The police have arrested two persons on suspicion in connection with acid attack on former panchayat president and well-known advocate M Venkappa Gowda and his wife Champa.
The identity of the arrested is not yet revealed. But sources said that they are the residents of Kallagundi near Sampaje here. They were arrested on Friday March 2 evening by special police team led by Sullia circle inspector Karunakar Shetty and SI Shivprakash under the guidance of ASP Lokesh Kumar. Both the suspects have now been taken to a secret place for investigation.
Unidentified men had thrown acid on Venkappa and his wife Champa on Tuesday February 27. The police had taken up the investigation suspecting the involvement of locals. Accordingly they had tapped all the phone calls and visitors who had come to Venkappa's office on the day of the attack.
Meanwhile the police have released the sketches of the suspects based on information gathered from Venkappa's wife Champa who had seen the culprits.
