Panaji, April 7 (IANS): Using veteran BJP leader L.K. Advani's convent education as a defence, the Congress on Tuesday attacked the ruling BJP in Goa for failing to act against its ministers and their kin for making comments against Christian-run schools.
"Advani studied in a convent school... I hope he is not involved in any (crime) she claims this kind of education brings," a Congress spokesperson told the media here.
Advani, a former deputy prime minister, was born in Karachi in 1927 and was educated at the St. Patrick High School in that city.
The Congress criticism follows statements on Sunday by Lata Dhavalikar, wife of cabinet minister Deepak Dhavalikar who claimed that Western culture was to blame for rapes and urged Hindu parents not to send their children to convent schools.
Dhavalikar on Monday endorsed his wife's comments and said that his wife was never "eve-teased" because she wore a bindi and saris.
"The Congress condemns these statements against minorities and minority-run institutions and demands that the BJP, as a senior partner in the Goa coalition government, should come down heavily on such ministers," said the spokesperson.
