Congress demands sealing of all Fabindia outlets in India

Panaji, April 3 (IANS): The Congress in Goa on Friday demanded immediate sealing of all Fabindia outlets across India, after union Minister Smriti Irani was spied upon on CCTV camera while trying out clothes at the boutique chain's store.

The incident has resulted in four arrests and is being probed by the Crime Branch.

In a statement issued here on late Friday, Congress spokesperson Sunil Kawthankar demanded a massive police drive across Goa to inspect the installation of CCTV in changing rooms of all commercial establishments.

"What happened at Fabindia is shameful and shocking to all of us, the state governments all over the country should immediately seal all Fabindia outlets in the country and carry out a thorough inspection," Kawthankar said.

"The Goa government in particular should carry out a massive drive to inspect all areas such as changing rooms, trial rooms and wash rooms which are used by women in the state in the costume outlets, hotels or any public establishments considering the past incidents," the statement said.

Four employees of the Fabindia outlet located near the north Goa beach village of Calangute have been arrested for setting up a CCTV camera, which covered the store's changing room where Irani was trying out clothes earlier in the day.

North Goa district police have already formed a special squad to examine stores across the coastal belt in the state for mischievously placed security cameras.
