Mangalore, Feb 26: State Women's Commission president Prameela Nesargi visited city on Sunday. Addressing press persons she said that the commission requires more funds for bringing about a change in the state.
Demanding for a funding of Rs 1000 lac from the existing Rs 50 lac, Nesargi said that the Andhra government offers Rs 34 crore for the programmes of Women's Commission for the year 2007. A similar support from Karnataka state is essential, she said.
Thirty three per cent of the funds in various government departments must be utilized for women welfare and all departments must come forth to work in this direction.
In the future days, the Commission will begin to operate in all the 27 district of the state. Help desks are put up only in 7 districts while rest of the district it will be set up soon.
Deputy Director of Department of Women and Child welfare Gertrude Veigas and advocate Asha Nayak were present at the press meet.
