Mangalore, Feb 23: A national seminar on ‘Globalisation and Dalits’ organised by the Centre for Dr B R Ambedkar Studies, Mangalore University was inaugurated at the varsity premises here on Thursday February 22.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the seminar, Osmania University Political Science professor Kancha Ilaiah said that economists have failed to give importance to Ambedkar’s research on provincial economics and value of rupee.
He also stressed on the need for dalits and other backward classes to rise against the anti-reservation campaign by the upper castes. He urged the people to follow Ambedkar’s example and end practices like untouchability and differences on the basis of caste.
‘Ambedkar and Dalits in Contemporary India’ was released on the occasion.
Among those present were Mangalore University vice-chancellor Prof K M Kaveriappa, MIDS former director Prof V K Nataraj and Centre for Dr B R Ambedkar Studies director Prof Vishwanath.
The valedictory will be held on Friday February 23.
