London, March 28 (IANS): Striker Harry Kane scored 79 seconds into his England debut as the Three Lions trounced Lithuania 4-0 in their Euro football qualifiers at the Wembley stadium.
The 21-year-old Kane, who has scored 29 goals for English club Tottenham Hotspur this season, netted England's fourth goal in the 72nd minute as a substitute for captain Wayne Rooney on Friday.
Earlier, Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Raheem Sterling had already score one goal apiece to put England ahead 3-0.
The goal was Rooney's 47th for England and the striker is just two goals away from legend Bobby Charlton's all-time goalscoring record for the country.
England stand atop of Group E with five wins from as many matches, six points ahead of Slovenia, extending their unbeaten run in competitive matches at the Wembley stadium to 17.
"It's not a bad start," Kane said after the match.
"I dreamed of this, and it's just a bit of a blur at the moment. It's the best moment of my career. To represent my country at senior level is the top, and hopefully I can continue to keep doing it, and hopefully this goal is the first of many."
England head coach Roy Hodgson said it was a dream come true for Kane.
"It is a bit of a fairy tale," coach Roy Hodgson said.
"It's nice when fairy tales come true, and it's come true for Harry. He's had a wonderful season so far, and he's crowned his England debut with a goal."
England will next play Italy in a international friendly match in Turin on March 31.
