Kundapur, Feb 21: "Radiation is, no doubt, a dangerous chemical phenomenon. But in our daily life it is more benevolent and less malevolent," said Dr M C Abani, scientist of Bombay Atomic Center inaugurating the one-day workshop on radiation in the local Bhandarkar’s College.

The element of dechnisium, in the course of its short life of six hours, turns into a different element while being used mostly in medical treatment. Another scientist Dr Pramila Savanth, speaking on the radio isotopes, said that they play a very significant role in fields like agriculture, industries, medicines and food processing.

As a special attraction for the workshop, slides were exhibited and screened on the importance of radio isotopes. At the end of the long question-answer hours, several doubts and confusion in the minds of the participating students were cleared to the great delight of the audience.
