Sullia, Feb 21: Thieves who broke open into a lecturer's house in the broad daylight at Kallapane near Subrahmanya here have decamped with cash and ornaments worth Rs 24,500 on Tuesday February 20.
The theft took place in Rangayya Shettigar's house. He is a lecturer and his wife Vimla Rangayya is a former taluk panchayat member. Rangayya had been to Vittal on Tuesday while his wife Vimla had gone out on some urgent work.
As usual she had kept the house key in a shoe outside the house. This has been the routine in the house in order to help their son who comes home from school. But when their son Sachin came home after 4 in the evening, he found the door open. When he went in, he also found the cupboard open and the entire house ransacked.
Sachin immediately called his mother over the phone. Upon her coming she found out that Rs 3,000 in cash along with a necklace and a ring were missing.
A complaint was later filed in the Subrahmanya police station in this regard later.
