Panaji, Feb 20: Goa's government on Tuesday said it would study to proposal to raise the age of retirement of government servants from 58 to 60 years.
"We will study the implications of enhancing the age before giving nod to the proposal," Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane told reporters after a cabinet meeting here.
The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee had recently passed a resolution demanding that government servant's age or retirement be raised from 58 to 60 years.
The chief minister hinted that the government is positive about enhancing the retirement age. "I had mentioned about such a move during my Liberation Day (19th December) speech .. we have made our stand clear," he said replying to a question.
Rane ruled out that such a move would axe youngsters' prospects to get government jobs. "We are creating jobs through Special Economic Zones, BPOs, KPOs and other sector. The current generation is more inclined towards such jobs which pays them better," the chief minister said.
He, however, said that before giving green signal to the age enhancing proposal, the final implications would be studied by the government. "If it has to come before state cabinet in a constructive form, a study will have to be made about the proposal," Rane added.
