Mangalore, Feb 19: A seminar on the Supreme Court verdict on the IX schedule of the Constitution was organised by the Parishishta Jathi mattu Parishishta Pangadada Nowkarara Messalati Samrakshana Okkuta at University College here on Sunday February 18.
The seminar was inaugurated by former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake while Okkuta honorary president presided.
Speaking on the occasion, Backward Classes Commission former president and senior High Court advocate Prof Ravivarma Kumar suggested the appointment of separate attorney general at the Centre and separate advocate generals at state levels to monitor problems and issues regarding social justice.
He further said that the Supreme Court judgement was against the basic concept of social justice and urged the implementation of reservation policies for backward classes and women for appointments to higher courts.
He also derided the concept of ‘creamy layer’ and said that it was a term used by the upper castes to prevent the backward classes to compete at higher levels of education and policy making.
Among those present were JDS district president K B Balaraj Rai, BSP state general secretary Sridhar Kaliver, Okkuta chief M Devadas and Mangalore University registrar Dr K Sundar Naik.
