Rio de Janeiro, March 24 (IANS): Four-time Brazilian Serie A champions Fluminense has sacked coach Cristovao Borges following a poor run of results.
The announcement came on Monday, less than two days after Fluminense's 1-1 draw with lowly Tigres in Rio de Janeiro's state league, reports Xinhua.
"We thank (Cristovao) for his work and for helping the club through this important transition period," Fluminense said in a statement on their official website.
Cristovao guided Fluminense to 28 victories, while the team also suffered 11 draws and 19 defeats after he took charge of the club in April.
Among the favourites to succeed him are former Brazil Under-20 team coach Ney Franco and one-time Atletico Mineiro manager Ricardo Drubscky.
