Mumbai, March 23 (IANS): Special Public Prosecutor in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case Ujjwal Nikam may have to explain his comments that executed Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab had never sought "mutton biryani" while in custody.
"Ujjwal Nikam's statement is unfortunate. We will seek a clarification from him on the issue after discussing it with the chief minister (Devendra Fadnavis)," Maharashtra Revenue Minister Eknath Khadse said in a tweet on Monday.
The high-profile criminal lawyer, who has been prosecutor in some of the most sensational cases in the country, said in Jaipur last week that Kasab never demanded nor was served "mutton biryani" in jail.
"I concocted it up to break an emotional atmosphere which was taking shape in favour of Kasab during the trial of the case," Nikam said on the sidelines of an international conference in the Rajasthan capital.
Media-darling Nikam has been at the receiving end since the "biryani" comment.
Besides 26/11, Nikam has successfully handled other major cases like the March 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case and Khairlanji massacre.
