Berlin, March 22 (IANS): The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) announced that Hamburg will represent the European country's bid for the 2024 Olympics.
The northern port city was unanimously chosen with 410 votes, and no abstentions, over capital Berlin by an extraordinary general assembly of the DOSB. Hamburg will compete with confirmed bidders Boston and Rome, and possible candidates Paris, Istanbul and Doha, reports Xinhua.
Germany hosted Summer Olympics in 1936 Berlin and 1972 Munich as well as Winter Games in 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
The bid must be submitted to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) by September 15 but needs to clear one further hurdle in the form of a referendum. Hamburg had a support rate of 64 percent in a recent survey.
