Mangalore, Feb 12: Private buses in Dakshina Kannada will ply as usual on Monday Feb 12 and KSRTC will operate its local buses though Kannada organisations have called for a State-wide bandh to protest against the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal. 

According to B P Diwakar, secretary, Dakshina Kannada Bus Operators' Association, private buses in the district would ply as usual on Monday. 

"We will watch the situation tomorrow. The services will be stopped only if the situation demands," he said.

P B Karumbaiah, Divisional Controller, KSRTC, Mangalore Division, said that the local buses to Puttur, Sullia, Dharmastala, Vittal, Subrahmanya, and BC Road would operate normally.

But buses to Bangalore, Mysore, Hassan and Hubli would be stopped during the day. The night bus services would be operated after 6 p.m. as usual, he said.

Meanwhile, the Education Department has issued a circular to schools to remain closed on Monday. Colleges would also remain closed, official sources said.

According to Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president, Dakshina Kannada Sahitya Parishat, the parishat would support the bandh call. 

The district unit of Janata Dal (United) has appealed people to maintain peace during the bandh.

Police sources said that the Police Department had made arrangements to face any eventuality during the bandh in the district.
