Udupi, Mar 13: Eight children were injured in a collision between an auto rickshaw and a recklessly driven bus here on Friday March 13.
The accident took place in front of Udupi city municipal council (CMC) office.
The accident occured when a speeding Mangaluru-Udupi Durgamba express bus overtook the auto rickshaw without any warning and took a sudden left just before halting at the bus stop near CMC. The auto driver, who was taken aback, lost control and rammed into the bus from the rear end. The impact of the collision was such that the auto rickshaw overturned.
There were eight children in the rickshaw, students of St Mary's School and Christian High School.
Two of the children, Yuvraj studying in 1st standard and Sona, a student of 4th standard, were badly injured and admitted to hospitals. The rest six sustained minor injuries. Auto driver Krishna Nittur was also injured.
Soon after the accident, the driver and the conductor of the bus escaped from the spot.
Udupi traffic police arrived at the spot, seized the bus and registered a case.
