Mangalore, Feb 7: President and members of Dakshina Kannada chapter of Kannada Sahitya Parishat staged a protest against the injustice meted out to the state in the much-controversial Cauvery water dispute.
Addressing the protestors Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura said that Cauvery river is the lifeline of the people of the state. "Accordingly the water dispute should be solved amicably without giving chances for any fight between the states, cultures, languages etc. It is purely water dispute and should not be allowed to become any other problem posing challenge to law and order," he said.
He further said that the present verdict given by Cauvery Water Tribunal clearly indicates that the union government is adopting a step-motherly attitude towards the state. "Therefore we demand that the state government should put pressure on the union government to sort the problem without doing injustice to lacs of farmers and agriculturists from the state who solely rely on Cauvery water for their crops," he opined.
