Bantwal, Mar 12: The people have been known to invent novel reasons for accidents that have become a routine affair everywhere. An official of Doordarshan Kendra here, who has suffered fracture of his leg and hand, has added another reason to this long list, by complaining to police officials and municipal office here, squarely blaming the pending dispute over garbage disposal as the sole cause for the accident in which he was involved with.

Ramachandra Tantri, working for the local office of Doordarshan Kendra, hails from Bhatkal. He had fallen from his motor bike, after a stray dog suddenly crossed his path near the B C Road Circle. He was treated in a private hospital in Mangaluru.
Presently he is recuperating from his injuries and fractures.

Tantri says that a number of stray dogs were vying for left overs in a garbage pile near the B C Road Circle. He said when he was moving on his motor bike by that place, another dog, which wanted to join the other dogs in their fight for food, rushed
towards the garbage pile, unmindful of traffic on the road. He said that the failure of the municipality in clearing the garbage promptly had caused this accident, and sought relief from the district administration.

The police officials said they are yet to get certificates and other papers from the hospital, only after the receipt of which they would be able to move ahead with investigation.

    Dev Mangaluru

Do not utter "Western" It is tabu here.
One can not compare Indian way of justice to western way as we do not accept anything that is beyond Indian border especially western.
Whether it is manners\dressing\education (Hypocrites)\fast foods etc etc. there should be no western influence in them.
Ask some in daiji itself who write in english\wearing western style clothes and may be having those mannerism too, they will immediately denounce anything that is western.....!!!(In my thinking Pant\shirt\tie\shoes\boots is western culture among other things)

So, I do not think your suggestion to take note of US justice systems will have many takers here.
In this particular case, they will search for the OWNER of the "stray dog"!!! which was the cause of accident and the matter of compensation will be in suspense until then. Good luck

Accident-Not 100% preventable, certain level possible to avoid by Safe road condition ( Govt responsibility) & Safe driving( people responsibility – Driving with mind and Eyes on driving- ALWAYS , maintaining CORRECT SPEED ,MAINTAINING VEHICLE )

Roaming & Dogs (Unsafe condition) – 100% preventable by taking away stray dogs- Municipality responsibility
Uncleared garbage (Unsafe condition) –100% preventable by periodic clean up by Municipality so that along with safety health condition of public also will improve

So on this specific accident, 100% cause is garbage & stray dogs and I agree with Mr. Tantri claim
Also when we approach area looking dangerous / too many crowd / intersection completely reduce speed to 10-20Km/hr & once you pass this RISK zone try to go fast . certain case SUDDEN not possible to evaluate RISK…. ‘ DRIVING SLOWLY’’ is ultimate solution .

What about animal lovers ? Even they should be sued, as they are also responsible for increase in the number of Street dogs.

The title and the news article is drafted in such a way that to give impression that his allegation is some what silly where as in reality he is quite right and it is a very serious and justifiable cause for the accident.

If he was in US, he would have got millions as compensation for the negligence of Municipal authorities.
Bad Roads, on going work of road, pot holes all can be sued on the local bodies & responsible departments if they cause accidents.
Hope Indians will get that privilege soon.

Blaming uncleared Garbage for street Dog menace and resultant accident by Ramachandra Tantri is quite justifiable. Because wherever there is a pile of uncleared garbage in any city you will find street dogs gathering there and causing problem for pedestrians as well as vehicle riders. Had the Municipality cleared the garbage in time these dogs would not have gathered there and Tantri would not have met with accident. Whether this case stands in the Court or not but this Case will surely throw up many question and awaken the concerned people. Ramachandra Tantri should fight this case with the help of some NGO till it reaches logical end.
