Karkala, Feb 5: A 60-year-old rider was killed when a Maruti Omni car collided with his scooter on the Baradi curve on Sunday February 4 evening.
The deceased has been identified as Babu Shetty (60), a resident of Hukratte near Mala here. He was on his way to Kantavara to attend the Vaikuntha Samaradhane (rites after funeral) of one of his relatives. He was riding his scooter when a car coming from the opposite direction collided. As a result Babu Shetty sustained serious injuries and died in the hospital.
Initially his identity was not established. It was only later that some of his relatives who were watching television recognized him and informed about the same to the police. Message was also sent to his Babu Shetty's children who are in Bangalore. The body has been placed in the mortuary at Karkala.
The Karkala police have registered a case in this regard.
