Los Angeles, March 7 (IANS): Actors Liam Hemsworth and Jeff Goldblum will be joining the highly-anticipated "Independence Day 2" sequel along with Jessie Usher.
Goldblum will reprise his original role from the hit film, with the hunky Australian actor Hemsworth tackling the lead role, reports eonline.com.
It's been almost 20 years since the Will Smith's blockbuster sci-fi movie first hit theatres. Its next instalment of the Roland Emmerich directed franchise is set to be released on June 24, 2016.
Usher will play Smith's son in the film, which is likely to pick up right where the 1996 classic left off. "Independence Day" grossed over $800 million after its massive release over the US Independence Day weekend nearly two decades ago.
Emmerich took to photo-sharing website Instagram to share the exciting casting news earlier on Wednesday, by posting a photograph of Goldblum and Hemsworth.
He captioned it: "Excited to officially announce@LiamHemsworth and#JeffGoldblum as the next two pieces of the#IndependenceDay sequel!"
