Canberra, March 3 (IANS): Opener Hashim Amla is glad to have scored a scintillating century which helped South Africa win their World Cup Pool B match against Ireland at the Manuka Oval here on Tuesday.
“Any hundred is a hundred. I am glad to get some runs,” said Amla, who was adjudged Man-of-the-Match for his match-winning knock of 159, his 20th One-Day International (ODI) century.
With the help of Faf du Plesssis (109), Amla struck a 247-run partnership to post the World Cup's highest total of 411/4 to earn a 201-run victory.
"Fortunately we got off to a good start, myself and Faf got going, and then I started to play some shots. We had wickets in hand so we could have a go. Thankfully, it came off. It was a good wicket and fortunately we got some runs. Always good to post a win,” he said.
Amla also credited the bowlers for the win who bowled out Ireland for 210.
“Our bowlers bowled exceptionally well,” added Amla.
