Mangalore, Feb 1: Football Players Association of the district has organized flood-light "Sports Festival - 2007" from Sunday February 4 to Sunday February 18 at football ground of Nehru Maidan here.  The association which is celebrating 15 years of existence has organized various sports competitions.

This was announced by association president and chief convener of the sports festival D M Aslam at a press conference here on Thursday February 1 morning.

The sports meet will be inaugurated by blood donation by more than sports persons and locals on February 4 morning.  The blood donation camp will be inaugurated Dr Prabhudeva, DMO, Wenlock Hospital here.  The blood donation camp will be handled jointly by Wenlock and Yenepoya hospitals.  The camp will be held upto 5 in the evening.  Throw ball and football competitions for women will be held simultaneously.

The football matches for men will start after the valedictory of blood donation camp on Sunday evening and will continue on Monday February 5 evening too.  On Tuesday February 6 district-level under-arm cricket tournament will be held in which 24 teams from the district are participating.

State-level Over-Arm Cricket tournament will be held from February 9 to 12 in which 16 cricket teams all-over the state are participating.  A district-level Over-arm Cricket tournament will be held from February 12 to 18. 

The valedictory of Sports Festival 2007 will be held on Sunday February 18 evening.  Various cultural programmes too will be held during the sports meet.

Dinesh Karkera, Sudhir Ullal, conveners of Over-arm cricket, B N Suresh, convener of Under-arm cricket and C Raj, convener of football and Harishchandra Bengare, convener of throw ball were also present at the press conference.
